Minwoo Nho, Jihyung Lee, Jason, and Siyeon showed their singing skills at ‘King of Masked Singer’. Although the person behind the vampire mask was already revealed with a word “Give me a hug”, Vampire made to the second round and his didn’t take off his mask on the day. Such situation made audiences to laugh. Jason showed his surprising signing skills and Minwoo Noh, Jihyung Lee, and Sihyeon overwhelmed the stage with their excellent singing ability as a singer.    

On MBC ‘King of Masked Singer’ aired on June 23, the 8 challengers appeared on the stage to stop the triple winning of singer king, Nightingale.

The first stage in the first round started with performance of Cupcake and Donut. The two challengers sang ‘Greatest Love of All’ of Whitney Huston. The song is famous as an original sound track for the movie ‘Bodyguard’.

Cupcake first started with a clear tone. Then, Donut continued the song with a deep voice. The beautiful harmony of Cupcake and Donut decorated a sweet stage.

Entertainer Judge Panel member Yeongsuk Yu said “There is a saying that ‘Well Begun is Half Done’ and the beginning part was amazing. I was deeply moved by the duet performance. While I was listening to the performance, I started to wonder why it had to be a pop song. I guess either Cupcake or Donut would be a foreigner. In the intro part, I thought about who would be the foreigner and I guess Donut would be a foreigner. She has a feeling of growing and learning at the birthplace of pop song. Also, her voice was graceful, voluminous, and luxurious”.  

Winner member Seungyun Kang said “I guess Cupcake was preparing for debut as an idol and she couldn’t debut because of dance skill. She is like a person who debuted with a different genre. Also, I think that Donut is quite older than Cupcake. When I told her that she is cute and fresh, she liked it a lot. Donut was also very skilled in controlling the temp of the song”. Kang also emphasized that “Both of them are not currently active idols”. Gura Kim guessed that Cupcake would be an actor Hyeonkyung Ryu who is good at singing. Then, Bongseon Shin refuted and said she would be an actor Haeyun Kim.

In the first stage, Cupcake won by winning Donut with 3 votes. Donut took off the mask and it was Dreamcatcher’s main vocal Siyeon.

For the second stage in the first round, Manager Kim and Chief Park competed. Manager Kim showed charms of shy boy with sweet dreamy voice. Chief Park showed a feeling of thinking about the past in the past days. Chief Park’s performance was comfortable and full of stage manners.

Entertainer Judge Panel member Yeongsuk Yu said “Chief Park has a special charm. His power control, breathing, and accent were remarkable. He has a inner blues”. Yunsang and Gura Kim fell in love with Manager Kim’s fresh voice. Then, Gurak Kim guessed that Chief Park would be an actor Seungsu Ryu.

The winner of the second stage was Manager Kim with overwhelming supports from non-entertainer judge panel. Chief Park was a comedian Hyunhee Hong’s husband and interior designer, Jason. When Jason was asked about the reason for participating in the program, he said “My wife (Hyunhee Hong) recently went through hardships (lose of father) and I didn’t know how to comfort her. I hope my performance would be a help for her”. His reason for participation in the program showed how romantic he is.

For the third stage in the first round, Paper Airplane and Paper Crane competed together. The two challengers sang ‘Ah-Choo’ of Lovelyz.

Paper Crane started with a boyish and soft charms. Then, Paper Airplane fought back with a husky voice and adorable charms. The sweetness capturing women’s hearts filled up the stage.

Yunsang who composed ‘Ah-Choo’ said “I was bit worried when I was told that two men candidates will be signing ‘Ah-Choo’. I never imaged a male version of the song and I actually thought the performance was cute. I loved the stage a lot”. Also, Mijoo from Lovelyz said “I think Paper Crane is a ballad singer. Singer Daegwang Hong came to my head. I think Paper Airplane would be a rapper”. Then, Hyunchul Kim guessed that Paper Airplane would be Jihyung Lee who sang ‘Passionate Goodbye’ of Toy.

The winner of the third stage was Paper Airplane. Also, Paper Crane was Jihyung Lee who was a guest vocal of Toy. It turned out that Hyunchul Kim’s guess was right.

The last stage of the first round was decorated with Vampire and Arabian Prince. The two challengers sang ‘You Are In My Arms’ by Jaeha Yu. Arabian Prince showed beautiful and sweet voice falling down like floral leaves. Vampire’s voice was very familiar. After listening to the song, the judge panel became certain about the person behind the vampire mask.

Yeongsuk Yu said “You can notice from the name ‘Arabian Prince’. His style is like Ryeowook from Super Junior. His vibration was very attractive. Although Vampire tried to hide who he is, he couldn’t hide it. Isn’t it nice that people recognize from hearing the voice?”. Hyunchul Kim added “The singing style is the clear answer. Vampire tried different singing style but we already know who he is”. He also said “Well, I give big hands for his attempts” and others started laughing.

Vampire won over Arabian Prince by 5 votes and the last winner of the first round was Vampire. The person behind the mask of Arabian Prince was singer and actor Minwoo Noh who debuted 16 years ago. Minwoo Noh also left a powerful impression by singing ‘Fake Love’ of BTS in a bold arrangement.
